How to Add Backgrounds During the Editing Process of Your Revel Form

When working with new Revel Form customers, one of the most common questions we hear is:

  • How long should backgrounds be?
  • What color should they be?
  • How do transitions work?

Let’s break it all down.

Step 1: Host Background

After your host finishes introducing the company, insert a 20-second background into your timeline.

🎥 Why 20 seconds?
Because when the video is exported as an MP4, that background is where Revel Form will overlay the first interactive question.

  • If the user answers quickly, most of the background is skipped
  • If they take longer (especially for open-ended questions), the video will pause automatically after 20 seconds, waiting for their input
  • Once they answer, the video resumes immediately

🔁 Example:

We pause the video at the full-screen transition frame, then skip ahead — this same transition can cut to Jack or Lisa, depending on the viewer’s choice.

Step 2: Meet the Experts

These are not separate videos — they live on the same timeline as the host.

  • When you export, the viewer won’t see the whole video — just the portion they navigate to
  • Each expert should include:
    • A lower third introduction
    • A tone that assumes the viewer is meeting them for the first time (even if they’re mid-video)

Step 3: Expert Backgrounds

After each expert segment, add another background section — again, ~20 seconds.

This is your opportunity to ask targeted follow-up questions:

  • Forestry expert? Ask: “What excites you about a career in forestry?”
  • Health Sciences expert? Ask: “What interests you most about health sciences?”

🎬 Examples:

  • Ashlin’s segment: background added in Premiere → finished with Revel Form question overlay
  • Jack’s segment: same process — background → Revel Form question

Step 4: Back to the Host

Once the viewer has completed the expert section, they’re routed back to the host.

This segment should go deeper:

  • Further explain your product, services, or unique advantages
  • Most importantly: introduce the contact form

Step 5: Ending the Revel Form

❌ One of the biggest mistakes: ending with a quick fade to black
✅ Better approach: add a 20-second end screen background with options

Give viewers a chance to go deeper:

  • Watch additional videos
  • Click resource links
  • Download helpful content
